“Praise Him for His mighty acts: praise Him according to His excellent greatness” (Psalm 150:2).
Most of the field was pretty well burned when the first fire truck arrived on scene. The fire was moving quickly and heading straight for the barn. Frantically Mel moved his small herd of livestock away from the barn and to another pasture. Soon fire fighters from several companies were arriving and battling the fire that now was upon the barn and heading up the west side of the structure. Within a half hour the fire was out. The barn did catch fire on the west side and part of the north end, but it could be repaired. The entire field of wheat and straw was gone, though. Mel called the firemen together for just a moment. “To say ‘thank you’ to you guys seems too little to say. I am not so good at talking, so this might come out wrong. But thank you for dropping everything to come a-running to my farm today. I don’t know what happened to get the fire going. But I want to thank you for getting it out. And I want to say to you that I love the Lord and I want to praise Him. Not long ago I read about praising Him for all the excellent things about Him. I still feel that way, fellows.” The chief from a neighboring department also loved the Lord. He said, “Mel, I prayed for safety as we traveled. In fact I prayed right out loud for you and about the fire as I hit the air horns and blew the siren. I had four of our trucks rolling behind me and I knew we had a good fifteen miles to come and help. I wanted those intersections clear! You are right. God is excellent.” What a praise service it was that day as the volunteers rolled up the hoses.
For today: In what circumstance will you be praising the Lord today?
