The Apostle Paul has a powerful testimony for us today. “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecution, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10).

On the way home from church several of the grown grandchildren stopped by to see Grandpa Mike at the nursing home. Their frail little grandfather once stood over six feet tall. He had been large in build and rugged in strength. Now he needed help getting up from the lunch table and back into his wheelchair.

How delighted he was to see his grandchildren standing outside his room. Never did he tire of seeing his family. After a nice visit he assured them that he didn’t want to keep them and he knew that they had lots to do. “But thanks for stopping by and seeing your old grandpa.”

Then he said the same thing he told them every time they visited. “This old house that you see is getting weaker, but the real me who lives inside, why he’s still getting stronger and stronger each day. Soon this old house won’t be able to hold me!” and the grandchildren would smile and hug him.

On the way to their cars, Kait stopped and spoke to the others. She said, “You know, Grandpa really means what he says. You and I need to carry on the family heritage of being strong in Christ.” It was a precious day for that family. How about you and your family? Do you know the joy of Christ’s strength in your weakness?

For today: It is not how weak I am but how strong my Lord is that really counts.
