Thanking God for the Cross
“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Galatians 6:14).
I cannot begin to imagine what the cross must have been like for the Lord Jesus Christ. Before creation in eternity past, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit determined that the Second Person of the Triune Godhead would at the time appointed (Galatians 4:4) take upon Himself humanity (Hebrews 2:9; Philippians 2:7). It would require an amazing miracle, this thing called the Incarnation (John 1:1-3, 14), in that a virgin would conceive of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:21-25). This perfect One would give Himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sin debt on the cross (Philippians 2:8; 1 Peter 2:24). But that is not the end of the story! Sunday came and everything changed! The Father’s stamp of approval was upon the Son and His sacrifice. He arose (Philippians 2:9-11)! So friends, I am not given to bragging, but if I brag about anything, it won’t be me! It will be about my Savior and what He has accomplished on the cross in my place!
For today: I’ll be thinking a lot about my Savior today. How about you?
