“The Prof, His Surprise Quiz and You!”

“O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together” (Psalm 34:3).

“Good evening, class. Look at this! We have perfect attendance!” Dr. Kenward said to the class of adult students in the Bible Institute in which he taught. “Please take out a sheet of paper, place your name at the top, and I have a little quiz for you tonight.

Last week I gave you five verses that you were to look up the selected key words I gave you, discovering the meaning of the words and the application of the verse. I am going to choose Psalm 34:3.” Dr. Kenward asked the class to write out in their own words the meaning of the words “magnify” and “exalt.”  They were also asked how these two words apply to everyday living. There were a few friendly groans and even one fooled by asking for three hints!

The class actually did very well in explaining these words.

Magnify. Here the word “magnify” is  gadal which basically means to grow, become great or important, powerful.

Exalt. The word “exalt” is ruwm which means to rise up, be high, to set on high.

Application to me personally. The application is that in every situation, wise believers know that our God is awesome. He is matchless in every way.  Therefore, I want my praise as well as my prayers to rise up to Him as I lift Him high indeed. I need to keep the proper view of my awesome God. He is matchless. While I need to view my situations and circumstances honestly, I also must intentionally be praising and exalting Him. I can do these things through the Lord’s strength and power as I trust Him.

Think of it! Since I know Christ as my Savior, I will choose to be watching for the many ways to magnify the Lord and to exalt His name. He alone is awesome. How will this truth impact your life today?
