For these few weeks of May I am sharing a few thoughts from one of Karen’s notebooks. These were taken on Sunday, November 11, 2010, from a message I was preaching as guest speaker in New York state. Think of the “As For Me” statements of King David. This is week three for the month of May and # 316 of “Karen’s Notes.”
Week # 1- King’s David “As For Me” of adoration. Despite the wickedness that is abounding, I will still worship and love the Lord.
Week # 2- King David’s “As For Me” of affection. Despite lawlessness and schemes of dishonest people, I will walk in integrity because I am in love with the Lord.
Today, Week # 3 King David’s “As For Me” of appreciation. Despite the fact that even when his good friends turned against him and let him down, he appreciated the fact that God is always faithful.
“For it is not an enemy who reproaches me; then I could bear it. Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me; then I could hide from him. But it was you, a man my equal, my companion and my acquaintance. As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice. He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me” (Psalm 55:12-13, 16-18).
Can you identify with this? We think it was Ahithophel who was a close companion and one of David’s most trusted advisors. Ahithophel betrayed David’s trust and took a leading part in the rebellion of David’s son Absalom. This was a devastating blow to the king.
Betrayal.
Rejection.
Loss.
Think of this as you finish reading “Karen’s Notes” today. Perhaps you are right now experiencing this. Perhaps you know someone who is. Karen wrote a short, concise and powerful note to herself. Despite the devastation of betrayal, GOD IS ALWAYS FAITHFUL.
When even the closest of friends let us down, we can appreciate the Lord. We can call upon Him. He will hear our voice any time of the day or night. He will even give us peace in the midst of this heartache.
