Thanks for stopping by today. You have a lot to do so I won’t keep you very long. I have some questions for you today that are just for fun and hopefully will bring a smile or two along your way. They concern the words we use all the time and think nothing of them. Consider with me these questions.
- Why is it in America that we park our cars on our driveway and we drive our cars on parkways?
- If money doesn’t grow on trees, why do banks have branches?
- Since bread is square, why is sandwich meat round?
- What did “cured” ham have before it came to us?
- Why is it that people say “I slept like a baby” when many babies wake up every two hours?
These questions are only meant to amuse us. But before you leave, let me ask you a serious question. How will you use your words today? The Bible says “The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked. The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked what is perverse” (Proverbs 10:11, 32). As King David prayed I too want to pray today. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer” (Psalm 19:14). Watch your words because they convey the condition of your heart!
