“Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name” (Psalm 103:1).
Have you blessed the LORD yet today? You might be wondering, “How in the world could I ever bless the Lord. He blesses me, but how could I ever bless Him?” It is so amazing and powerful to understand what the word “bless” in this context means. It is the word barak which means “to kneel, to bow the knee, to adore, to salute.” When Stan learned this truth, it changed his life. As a retired military officer, he was quite used to being saluted. When he stepped into the room, the troops leaped to their feet and saluted. Now he was learning that as a new believer, when it came to living for Christ, daily he must come to the point of quickly bowing the knee, trusting the Lord Jesus, accepting what the Lord is doing, praising and adoring Him, and even saluting! It is the acknowledgement of the inferior looking up to the superior and trusting. It completely changed Stan’s life. He still had hardships and sorrows, but his reaction to them was very different.
For today: Bless, “barak,” the holy name of the Lord. Bow your knees and look up with praise and even salute. Acknowledge that He is God and you are not. (I need this reminder every day. How about you?)
