“Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims” (1 Peter 2:11).
A stranger doesn’t fit in nor does he belong. A pilgrim doesn’t settle down very long. He is just passing through. This is exactly the way it should be for every single Christian in this old world. Years ago I was in Mali for several weeks. The dear folks of this country were wonderful to me, but I was not at home there. I wouldn’t be there long, and I stood out as being a stranger. Likewise, this world is not our home. We are citizens of Heaven. We should be strangers and pilgrims, not really settled here with our roots deeply grounded. We will never really be at home until we are Home with Him!
For today: Keep the chorus in mind, “This world is not my home, I’m just a-passing through!”
