“Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) that it might be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth” (Ephesians 6:1-3).
Chip Wood, Director of the Baptist Church Planters’ Youth Ministry, shares with us an interesting lesson with a great application from his childhood. Check out his web site at http://bcpyouthministry.com/joy-club/. There are many ways he and his family could be of help to you in your local church. Chip grew up on a farm and distinctly remembers his father telling him not to play in the barn and on the bales of hay. As I shared with you yesterday, young Chip thought it would be a great adventure to scale the thirty-foot high bales of hay, hang on to the rope while creeping out across the beam to the center of the barn. There he would tie the rope to the upright beam and swing like Tarzan across the rest of the barn and onto a lower stack of hay. The crisis came when he dropped the rope halfway across the beam. Chip froze in terror and could not make his way back. Moments turned into hours until he was discovered missing. Finally his dad walked into the barn and called his name. For a moment Chip didn’t have the courage to answer. His dad was starting to turn away when Chip realized that this was his last chance to call out for help! Perhaps you are a child and listening to your parent reading this Daily Prescription. It was great that Chip’s dad came and rescued him, but do you suppose it would have been safer if Chip had obeyed? God expects you to obey your parents as well.
For today: No matter how fun the situation looks, if it is disobedience, it is dangerous! What a great lesson for all of us.
