Karen’s Update! The Scan Results are Back.
August 24th, 2016
It is such a joy to know that so many of our friends are praying for us. We’ve received so many wonderful emails and private messages assuring us of their prayers. Thank you so very much.
The radiation / oncologist told us that he was pleased with the results. He said that this is just exactly where he hoped we would be. The mass has decreased and demonstrating that it is responding to the Cyber Knife radiation surgery. He said that this should continue over the next several months. His goal is still “obliteration.” Karen is scheduled for a PET scan on October 28th. This will determine if there are cancer cells still active in the mass (or anywhere else as well.) We have an appointment on November 2nd to learn the results of the PET scan.
If I were totally honest with you, I was hoping that the mass would have disappeared. But before we left, I hugged Karen and held her close to me as I prayed that the Lord would help us with whatever the answer would be. I was so concerned for her. She was so concerned for me. But to discover that this is what the doctor hoped for and that obliteration wouldn’t be right away has encouraged me this afternoon.
We waited for a month for this appointment. Then we waited quite a while for the doctor to come into our room. Now we are waiting for the PET scan. Cancer patients and the family seem to do a lot of waiting. I realize that waiting is not unique to cancer patients. But it certainly is true for those who are on the cancer journey. Waiting is not easy. However, it is not a wasted thing. King David said, “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD” (Psalm 27:14). That’s just what my sweetheart and I want to be doing. Good courage comes from a strengthen heart. A strengthened heart comes from waiting on the LORD. There just aren’t any shortcuts.
Thank you so much for your prayers. I cannot begin to tell you how much they mean. Please continue to pray. Obliteration hasn’t happened yet; but hopefully we are on the way to that celebration.
