“The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace” (Isaiah 59:8).
Isaiah, through the ministry and power of the Holy Spirit, describes the terrible condition of both nations and people who have “made them crooked paths.” Another way of translating this statement is, “They intentionally plan out crooked ways and then wonder why they have no peace.” For many years (when I was much younger!) I was a Police Chaplain. I saw first-hand the drama and the agony that came upon people who deliberately plotted out “crooked ways.” Sometimes after being handcuffed and seated in the back of our squad car, oh how those big old “ready to fight” criminals cried like babies. They had no peace. Here is a good lesson for us. We truly need to be absolutely sure that our lives are not taking deliberate turns on “crooked ways.” There will be no peace down any of those paths.
For today: Lord, please help us to live righteously in this present world. We will need Your help in order to do this.
