“Whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).
Kathy thought back to the discussion she had had with her dad over twenty years earlier. Now she was having the same conversation with her daughter concerning an event to which her daughter wanted to go. “Honey, I know that you are thinking that I am old fashioned and that it is not fair because, as you claim, all your friends are going to this activity. You would be surprised to know that I had a very similar conversation with your grandpa over twenty years ago. For me it was a concert. I really wanted to go. My dad looked sad as he said to me, ‘Kate, I’m sorry that we are still having this discussion. I’ve already told you no. I’m your dad, and I don’t think this is a wise thing for you to do,’ he told me quietly. Then he quoted a Bible verse. It was ‘Whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God’ which is from 1 Corinthians 10:31. I was a little angry with him. All right, I was very angry with him. But I knew that I couldn’t glorify God while being at that activity. It is the same with you, Sweetheart. You cannot go. I am your mom, and I have told you no. Furthermore, you couldn’t possibly glorify the Lord while doing something that is sinful.” There were moments of tension in the discussion, but it was a battle that was well worth it. As a Christian, glorifying the Lord should be my top priority today. Is it with you?
For today: Whatever I do today, may it be to the glory of the Lord.
