“His work is honorable and glorious: and His righteousness endures forever” (Psalm 111:3).
“Don’t waste your life by going into the ministry! I will not have my son throw away his future!” Eric shouted at his son, Marty. “I want you to forget this nonsense, and you know full well that your mother and I have planned on you joining me in my practice. I don’t want to hear any more about this ministry business,” and with that Eric returned to his newspaper and refused to talk with his son any longer. Marty quietly went to his room and sobbed as he knelt at his bed. On one hand he sensed the strong call of God upon his life, and yet on the other hand he did not wish to dishonor and hurt his father. Two very opposite pulls were breaking his heart. Crying out to the Lord, he asked God to give him wisdom. Some moments later Marty decided to read his Bible. Coming upon Psalm 111 he was reminded of how the work of the Lord is honorable and glorious. Do you want to know what became of Marty? Come back tomorrow and we’ll talk more about Marty. When the Bible speaks of the work of the Lord, it is important to remember that it speaks not just of vocational ministry. Everything that the Lord is doing is an honorable work!
For today: Isn’t it wonderful to belong to the righteous God Whose work is both honorable and glorious?
