I’ve been reading through an Old Testament book of the Bible. The Hebrew Old Testament refers to this as the Book of the Desert or the Book of the Wilderness. Do you know which book this is? Take a guess.
A. Exodus B. Leviticus C. Numbers D. Deuteronomy.
The first verse of this book says, “And the LORD spoke unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation.”
Do you know which book this is? The answer is C. The book of Numbers.
Perhaps it has been a long time since you have chosen to read this precious Old Testament book. I get it. There are lists of names. There are lists of offerings described. However, there are wonderful blessings in all of these, as well as much more. The children of Israel are on a journey through the wilderness. What a dauntingly overwhelming situation they faced daily. Not to be overwhelmed, the Lord assured them of His presence and protection. The tribes camped in their assigned places around the Tabernacle and listen to this!
“So it was always: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night. And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the children of Israel journeyed: and in the place where the cloud abode there the children of Israel pitched their tents” (Numbers 9:16-17).
Here’s what truly blesses me today. If the Lord promised His protection and presence to the children of Israel in the Old Testament wilderness, think of His presence in the lives of His children today in the age of grace. We have the Holy Spirit personally abiding with us continually. Think often of this today!
