Well, that was something!
I just brought the mail in from our mailbox on the front porch. I glanced through it. I received a recipe from my congress person! I received an offer for “cheap” car insurance. I received a letter asking me to donate to a particular organization. And then the last letter caused me to smile and shake my head.
It was a letter with an invitation to join the Black River Hunters Night Out. I’m not opposed to hunting, but I’ve never personally hunted once in my life. You’re smiling at the thought of them inviting me. But friends, it gets even better than this. The invitation came to my wife, Karen Peck, not me! Karen will have been Home with the Lord eight years in April. I suspect that she won’t be attending the Hunters Night Out. Not sure how they got her name and my present address. However, it did make me smile and gives me this illustration.
You and I receive invitations all the time in the mail. Most of which we ignore and throw away. Everything from new windows, to clothes, to insurance, to dozens of other things. However my friends! There is another invitation that goes out today from none other than the Lord Himself. Listen to this invitation!
“Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, there is none else” (Isaiah 45:22). “Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
The Lord Jesus invites you to come to Him.
The Lord Jesus invites you to learn of Him.
Have you trusted Christ as your personal Savior. If you have, are you learning of Him? Are you listening to His voice in His Word? Be careful, my friend, not to get so busy doing good things that you miss the most important thing, and that is accepting His invitation.
