The surgeon warned us that if he found cancer anywhere he would stop the surgery and proceed no further. We assured him that we understood. But when Jeremy and I were called back to the consultation room in less than forty minutes, I had a sense that our apprehensions may be accurate. Karen and I both truly wondered if the cancer had spread even though the tests and scans didn’t show it.
Sure enough. I am brokenhearted to tell you our friends that the cancer has spread and is into her stomach lining. One of the oncologists from our practice has already been in to see her today. It is too early to tell you exactly what we are dealing with. But it is very serious. Very serious.
Here is what we know tonight.
1. Karen still has her gallbladder. The pain and severe nausea are coming from the cancer in the lining of her stomach. The gallbladder is not functioning well; but it is still there.
2. I am going to be talking to the oncologist to get some pain medication and something for the nausea. Pray that we can get the symptoms under control.
3. We had tremendous opportunity to share with medical folks the reason for the hope that we have as Christians.
4. Best of all, the Lord is still on throne, nothing has taken Him by surprise, and we are going celebrate each day that the Lord gives us together. Thank you so much for your prayers. We surely need them.
