The Best News I Could Share
Saturday Evening April 4th, 2015
I often thank our friends for their faithful prayers. When we learned of Karen’s cancer our lives changed dramatically. I cannot begin to tell you what it is like for me as her husband to be sitting at her hospital bedside when the pulmonologist walked into the room with a stricken look on his face. Karen said to him, “The biopsy is back, isn’t it?” Dr. Dacha solemnly answered, “It is just as I expected. You have cancer Mrs. Peck.”
As a former pastor of several precious local churches and as the former vice president of Baptist Church Planters, I have had the privilege of being with people at the very happiest times of their lives as well as the very worst time of their lives. This was for sure one of the hardest times of my life. I looked at my beautiful wife as she quietly accepted the assignment that the Lord suddenly brought into her life.
As one who never smoked a single cigarette in her life here she was in the presence of a medical specialist who in his career had treated hundreds and hundreds of smokers who now suffered the consequence of their choices. But Karen? With lung cancer? The pulmonologist was nearly as stunned as we were.
Over the next month a whirlwind of tests, scans, blood tests, appointments, and her first “big guns” infusion, Karen maintains her sweet testimony with all the doctors and their staffs. She is often hugged and even occasionally one of the medical team will give her a phone call “just to see how she is today.” What an amazing team the Lord has brought to us.
But I digress. I promised I would share with you the best news I could share. Here it is. Karen has had a good day today. As she would call it, “I’ve had a normal day. Normal is good!” She has felt well today. So the best news is that I don’t have a lot of news to share. Yep! It’s been a good day and that’s the best news I could share.
These are some of the most difficult days we have ever faced. We are leaning heavily on the risen Savior who is alive! HE IS RISEN AS HE SAID.
