“My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path” (Proverbs 1:10, 15).
You read yesterday of Lance, the new employee, catching Sheila stealing from the fast food restaurant. While the restaurant closed at 11:00 pm, the drive thru window stayed open until 1:00 am. When things slowed dramatically, the newest employee was sent to begin cleaning the main section of the restaurant, and only one or two people handled drive thru orders. Sheila and several other employees would wait for the night manager to go to his office, and then they would take orders without putting them through the system. Then they would pocket the money. Sheila had been doing this for a long time. Then Lance was hired. She enticed him to keep quiet and he would get a cut. He refused, and as the discussion continued, he adamantly refused. Sheila growled, “Shut up, you fool. It’s easy money, and I’m entitled to it.” She had no idea that the manager had emerged from his office and was standing behind her. Within ten minutes two police officers had responded to the fast food restaurant and placed Sheila in handcuffs. As the female officer searched her, she confessed that the forty-seven dollars found in her pockets was stolen. She was under arrest and taken to the squad car. The manager spoke quietly to Lance and said, “I heard you say, ‘No! Never!’ And I knew it was time to come out. Look up there, Lance. See the camera. We had an idea this was happening. Two other employees have a police car in their driveways tonight. We’ve been watching it for three days now and wanted to be sure that we had everyone. I’m proud of you for saying, ‘No,’ and just remember, you could be in a police car tonight if you had consented and said, ‘Yes.’”
For today: If sinners entice you, be adamant as you say, “No! Never!”
