“For our light affliction which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory: while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:17-18).
The Apostle Paul surely endured terrible heartaches and difficulties. A few chapters later in 2 Corinthians 11, he speaks of his beatings, whippings, imprisonments, robberies, and shipwrecks. How incredibly wonderful his balance, however! When compared with eternity, all these things are to be considered light affliction which lasts for a moment. We need to keep this focus in our personal lives. Whatever we face today, view them through the sights of eternity. It brings an entirely different focus to our suffering.
For today: My afflictions don’t seem light until I view the glory and joy of eternity. Thank you, Lord.
