“Therefore I will give thanks unto Thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto Thy name” (Psalm 18:49).
Written by King David on the day when the Lord delivered him and gave him victory over all his enemies, Psalm 18 is a song of deliverance and thanksgiving to the Deliverer. When David wrote that he would give thanks to the LORD, he was specifically acknowledging the Source of victory, and therefore, giving thanks in the presence of the defeated enemies. Our circumstances are no doubt quite different from those of King David. However, I just can’t help but wonder how our day might be changed if, in the midst of those who didn’t know Christ, who opposed our stand for righteousness, and who persecuted us, we would be a little more thankful to the Lord. Even if it doesn’t seem to make a big difference, it is still the right thing to do!
For today: I will give thanks to the LORD. What a great challenge and example.
