“And He said ‘Come.’ And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water to go to Jesus” (Matthew 14:29.
Have you ever noticed how we preachers seem to emphasize the fact that Peter took his eyes off the Lord and began to sink? Rarely is there much mention of the fact that in the middle of the night, in the middle of the sea, Peter “was come down out of the ship.” This tells us that Peter didn’t have the opportunity of putting first his right foot out and then his left foot as he gently pulled himself up to a standing position on the water! I have to hand it to Peter. The other disciples stayed in the boat. Peter heard the voice of our great Lord saying, “Come.” And out he went, down from the boat and onto the water to walk to the Lord Jesus. What a leap of faith. What a great lesson for us. I have to ask myself, “Michael, in what ways have you been willing to get out of the boat and take a walk of faith?” I am challenged. How about you?
For today: Where are you today? Back in the boat or walking on the water? How will this play out in your life today?
